I hear it every single day. A candidate spends hours preparing for an interview, buys a new shirt, researches the company, and pours their heart into a conversation. Then? Nothing. Silence for weeks. No email, no text, just a void where a relationship used to be.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As The Genuine Recruiter<\/strong>, this gets under my skin more than anything else.<\/p>\n\n\n\n I know what the traditional excuses are. \u201cI\u2019m too busy.\u201d \u201cI have 500 applicants.\u201d \u201cThe hiring manager hasn’t updated me yet.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n I get it. We\u2019re all busy. But when we ghost people, we\u2019re forgetting one very simple thing: That “data point” in your system is a human being with a life. They are checking their phone every ten minutes. They are holding off on other life decisions because they\u2019re waiting to hear from you. They\u2019ve given you their time and their hope. The least we can do, the bare minimum, is give them the truth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n A “No” isn\u2019t fun to deliver but it\u2019s a gift. It gives that person permission to stop waiting. It gives them their energy back so they can go find the place they actually belong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n I\u2019ve made it a rule in my practice: I don’t leave people hanging. Even if the update is “I don’t have an update yet,” I send the note. It takes thirty seconds to be a person.<\/p>\n\n\n\n If we\u2019re too busy to be human, we\u2019re too busy to be recruiters.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Relationships matter. People matter.
